MySpace was a pioneer, but they never had the kind of momentum that Facebook has now... It was security and malware that drove people away from MySpace. Facebook has been much better at managing those problems - but any social network that falls prey to those symptoms will face the same fate that happened to MySpace.Just keeping this one active - I want to see the follow up and see if Google + is getting traction or not.

A lot of my friends moved states away from me. Through facebook, we've been able to talk, share content and be close (not physically close of course) again. I actually use Facebook to reconnect with far away friends and even talk/share content with friends of mine who are still at home. I keep up with techie stuff here on TR mostly, but I do venture to other places like packet pushers and rickatron's podcast blog. So yeah Facebook is my favorite social network and I actually use it often.
