I've been doing this for more than 20 years, and we NEVER use alcohol.
I once had a user give me a keyboard with stuck keys, as was mentioned in the article.
I took it into the basement, where there's a big 'ol slop sink. I ran some warm water over it, and after a few minutes, the keys magically unstuck! I let the water run through the entire keyboard for a few more minutes, and let it dry for about a week, and put it back into service.
It was as good as new.

We used to use this trick all the time. It never proved to be the wrong thing to do.
