A user reported to the IT help desk that his printer was not printing. When I went down to check, I found that the USB cable connecting the printer to the PC had actually been slotted into the computer's network (RJ45) port instead of a USB port.
Another day I took new computer equipment to install at some of our remote offices. I was to record serial numbers of the equipment after installation. However, after I returned, I found out that I had inadvertently forgotten to record the serial number for a UPS. I called the remote office so that they can provide the serial number. I was given a serial number which did not match that of the brand of UPS. I had to make repeated calls to get the correct serial number, which I eventually go from someone at the office who was more IT literate. He informed me that his colleagues mistook UPS for CPU and that they would have known what I was asking for If I had asked for serial number for the 'computer battery'!
