Thanks Steve for bringing attention to the importance of IT to remain relevant.
Any IT leader who is caught by surprise at being bypassed has only themselves to blame. IT's role and the environment we work in has changed dramatically over the last while, and it will be those who bunker down and expect the world around them to adapt will soon find themselves running underfunded IT departments charged with keeping the "lights on" at the lowest possible cost.
This doesn't mean that being banished to maintenance mode is inevitable however. But it will take changing the way we do IT.
