Here???s how I see this working:

DOD begins Linux roll out
US Government begins wide-spread roll out
Civilian security companies world-wide begin roll out
Universities fall in line
Consumers begin clamoring for better security on their OS
---------------------------------------------------

That is a bit of a presumptuous or overly ambitious play out of adoption of it.

I'd move the Universities up one, and stop there. Businesses because of their staff (non-IT) and Consumers are lazy in most cases and proprietary systems will still dominate those markets.
