In my over 50 years of life I have NEVER heard the term "cull" used in a positive manner. The common use of a word should always be the first choice, regardless of where it ranks in the dictionary.

Remember the first rule of communication: The message received is the message sent. A corollary is any miscommunication is always the sender's fault. If a word can have multiple and especially conflicting meanings, then choose another word.
