Are we finally seeing MS follow Apples success and withdraw from mass markets approach to software and hardware solutions? Could the mainstream software market become exclusively opensource within five years? Will many hardware vendors now step up opensource development for their products?

Yes, these things -could- happen. The question is, how likely are they? The last two depend on the first, and I don't see MS abandoning corporate or consumer markets. I don't even see how entering the tablet market would indicate a change in direction away from mass markets.

Glad to see Microsoft has come out with a true productive tablet. As far as pricing, we should go easy on Microsoft. Apple has been selling over-priced toys and no one complained! It is nice to see Microsoft gets a turn in this game and most importantly, work with a true corporate tablet.

I have never had a pleasant experience with Microsoft support for my personal equipment. Now if the company you work for has a support agreement, that is different and done well. One place I worked had a Microsoft employee on site and he taught me some very good stuff. I know the thought of Microsoft support for an mPad sends shivers down my spine, I won't be buying one.

I have worked in IT as a database administrator for 15 years.
