It's dark ENERGY that comprised 70 percent of the universe. The estimate for dark matter is 25 percent of the universe, leaving just around five percent for normal matter that makes up everything we see.

So I suppose you could say that dark matter represents over 80 percent of total matter, or that dark matter and dark energy combined is 96 percent of the universe. Any good science writer should know this. It's no less embarrassing than calling the Higgs the "God Particle"!
