Macneo... This article and tear down is full of accurate specs and facts. You are so blinded by your love for Apple that you ignore the facts. Bill Detwiler points out the great specs this laptop has and then points out the glaring weaknesses that are deal breakers for most.
I don't hate Apple. I came within seconds of shelling money out for an iPod, iPhone 4S, and a 3rd Gen iPad in one afternoon. Had my checkbook in hand and almost made it happen. Then the adapters, add ons, attachments, cables, devices, docks, and goodies started to add up. After doing some internet research I also find that all of these add ons will soon be obsolete with Apples next gen devices as they are changing the port configuration to a "new" Apple Proprietary designed port. Yes an adapter will fix the ethernet issue. However, this should have been built into the Mac Pro to begin with.
The real deal killer for me that all of these devices have in common (including this new Mac Pro) is that the battery cannot be replaced by the end user. So its Saturday afternoon and you are packing your bags for an out of town business meeting on Monday and your battery fails in one of these devices. I dont care which device you pick... the fact that you cannot replace the battery is a enormous problem. Someone here stated that a battery is a wear and tear item and they are right. BATTERIES FAIL and at some point will need to be replaced.
Some here have argued that batteries, internal hard drives, and memory rarily fail. The fact is that they **ALL** fail and they are wear and tear items. The car analogy is correct here. This would be the equivalent of having an auto maker sealing the hood and underbody of a car with special bolts only they can remove. Then having to go to that manufacturer only and pay whatever they feel like charging to fix, maintain, repair, and replace everything on the car whenever they have time to do it... including battery, oil changes, belts, hoses, fluids, right down to air in the tires. I wont buy are car that is made this way and I wont buy electronics that are made this way either. I dont know about some of you... but I work hard for the money I have to spend on these things. I wont waste it on something that could be easily rendered nothing more than an over-priced paper weight.
Someone said that we have choices. If Apple & Tim Cook have their way... we won't. Apple continually files lawsuits and injunctions against other competitors to block the sale of products that blow their i-Crap out of the water. Take the Samsung Nexus or Galaxy S3... HTC 1X... Motorola Droid... Apple has pending suits against all of these smart phones. Apple also has litigation against most tablet manufacturers including Acer, Asus, Lenovo, Microsoft Surface, Samsung Galaxy Tab, and Toshiba. Why? Because these companies are making products Apple cannot compete with or keep up with.
Apples business model is to have you purchase new and purchase often. They want you spend money over and over to buy their i-Crap and add-ons. You may have money for this type of skeme but most do not.
No thank you. Apple can keep all of their wonderful i-Crap. As long as lawsuits and litigation doesnt prevent me from buying from someone else I will chose to do just that.
