At least regarding the males... it really is sad... and the manipulated forces that compel workers to stay on longer - some sources claim the legal and medical professions use artificial means to keep their numbers low, which has a twofold effect:

1. higher costs (go figure)
2. longer hours, which means quicker burnout for the workers
