Customer facing?
As a customer facing IT Pro I always dressed smartly: Suit and tie. The result was that the customer listened to me, trusted me and very often implemented my suggestions. They would ask for me personally.
My colleagues would often dress down and were considered less reliable to the extent that they would be asked what I thought even though they were often more capable than me.
If you need to get ahead get a suit, impressions count a lot.
