Appropriate Dress for IT
Personally, beach or boardwalk wear is out of the question. If you are a foot soldier (Help Desk), Docker style pants, casual open collared shirt, or Polo shirt and flat, slip proof shoes would be appropriate. In a past life in Help Desk Support, even a pair of steel toed work shoes would have been appropriate with all the heavy printers and other bulky hardware I lugged by hand up a really steep set of stairs to the offices on the 2nd floor.

If you are the CIO, IT Manager, standard business dress would be appropriate. Data analysts and programmers should be able to go the Dockers, open collar shirt route, or women's slacks and a conservative blouse with a good pair of shoes. Clothing should be clean and in good repair (no holes, or frayed knees). Make sure your hygiene is good - co-workers who shower before coming into work are always welcome. In my case, I needed two per day because I did a lot of work out in the warehouse of a local wine distributor. Let's use a little common sense here.
