It's just a part of the FUD campaign by Microsoft, Apple and their disciples try to corral us all into being slaves to closed-source software peddled by money grubbing corporations who want to control our every action and thought.

I run open source software exclusively on all of my computers. Open source software is very much alive and well. I haven't found one piece of proprietary software (that I use) that doesn't have an open source equivalent.

With the flop called Windows 8 nearing its release date, this is just more FUD to try to prevent the massive flood of users to Linux that will invariably happen as Microsoft tries to turn everyone's desktop computer into a phone or tablet. It was Microsoft's last flop (Vista) that drove me into the warm and awaiting arms of the open source community, and the same thing will happen, once again, for many other users with the release of Windows 8.
