Open-source is not a solution, it's a continual problem
I have used open-source tools for 35 years. I am the author of a LaTeX module for letter writing. I use perl, cygwin, latex, imagemagick. But never at work. Because, when I devise a LaTeX solution, I will maintain it. No one else knows it. When I suggest some perl script, I will be the maintainer. You are not paid for downloading and installing some OS tool. Most of them have no support, there is an endless process of install perl to install x to install y, and then you get a solution that no one else uses. So, open source will never really take off at the workplace.
