Debian was decent (and stable) a decade ago. It has gone downhill since.

I'll stick to FreeBSD, thanks. Yes, I know, FreeBSD isn't for beginners, but I'm not a beginner, so I'm free to make my decisions based on things like stability, consistency, flexibility, and so on, rather than on how well it holds my hand.
