Nothing an IT dept does not already doo.

Do you need to stuff your organization with some Cloud (Cuckoo Land) Project Managers too ?

Heard it all now. Talk about creating jobs for the sake of it. This is nothing more than an IT department/Manager should already be doing if they use hosted, oops I mean "cloud", services.

The slip when you said 'hosted' instead of 'cloud' is so true. Many organizations have simply placed a new name on an old solution. Check out our blog article What Should and Should Not be Called Cloud? http://totaluptimetech.com/what-should-and-should-not-be-called-cloud/

Good catch in my article too. I really liked the blog you reference - it made a lot of important points that people don't always "get"

Hi Gene,
Good point. The last thing most enterprises need is more unproductive politics and warring factions, so I get your point. What I've noticed about enterprise politics is that somehow there is tacit agreement that the enterprise actually wants a "healthy" amount of in-fighting. Don't agree with this strategy myself - but it has been prevalent in a few companies where I've worked. But I don't think a well-managed organization that discourages unproductive warring factions would necessarily be hurt by a CCO role. I guess it would depend on the organization. Also, enjoyed your linked blog!

Kate,
I think we're definitely in agreement that this role can add value. As you point out to zygote below, there will be a cloud strategy with or without IT involvement. In my opinion, having the cloud strategy part of a cohesive technology strategy (that is geared to supporting the business strategy) is key to avoiding unnecessary expense and waste.
How would someone with Cisco experience (CCNA, CCNP, CCDP) migrate his experience to CLOUD COMPUTING?
Hi, I'm curious about your comment - while I particularly don't appreciate "empty suits" and prefer colleagues that deliver results, is there something I'm missing? Would like to hear more. I attended a SANS cloud security class a few weeks ago and I was pretty surprised at how nascent enterprise cloud projects / initiatives are. It seems that lines of business are running off and setting up their own cloud services with credit cards - undermining existing IT. Would like to get more of your perspective.
