What is your current data redundancy application? Do you have a physical RAID configuration? Have you considered the benefits of the new Storage Spaces tool found in Windows 8?
I currently have a Drobo FS providing my data redundancy. It essentially works the same way as Windows 8. It has storage for 5 hard drives up to 15TB. It takes minimal amount of setup and is extremely user friendly. I have considered using Windows 8 storage spaces because it works the same way but there are a few concerns I have. My case only has room for 3 drives comfortably and I am making use of the space. So it would seem that I would have to upgrade my case. (not a huge concern there) but my case is compact now and portable I can take it on the road. I have my Drobo in another room in the case of a fire I hope to be able to grab one of them on the way out. I realize that is only useful if I am there and that if I am that worried about a fire then I should use an online solution. but back to Windows 8...the storage spaces has me rethinking my home data redundancy solution and coming up with a new portable solution (laptop). Oh and giving my Drobo to my friend who has been eyeing it.
I've seen these types of set ups around for over a decade. The only thing new about it is Microsoft is now putting it out themselves and not a third party mob.
For a major enterprise a full RAID set up is more relevant, and for average people like me a back up onto another drive and a regular back up to a removable drive is more than sufficient.
