Too few characters ...
... for my real name. I have a hyphenated double first name and up front two ancestors names (which I almost never use) and no middle name. If I understand you right, you'd convert Jean-Jacques Rousseau into Jean J Rousseau even though he didn't even know what the concept of a middle name is. This becomes an issue when digitized records need to be matched with such a mundane thing as a birth certificate. You're in danger here to violate your own tenet - respecting the client's business model.
