your ardent admissions of ignorance! Your latest and best yet:"most likely Realplayer Plus's FREE updates". The phrase "most likely" (which you included as necessary 'damage control') further proves my point about your need to ram your incorrect assuptions down others' throats, regardless the actual facts. RPPlus updates are NOT free; not even 'most likely' so, not even a little bit (and if they *were*, then there wouldn't even be an option to pay for them, would there?! The harder you troll, the more stupid you make yourself appear---the limb you've typed yourself out onto now is: "most likely"...that *is* the semantic equivalent to "I have no idea what I'm going on about!"). One more time, for Mr. DDunin, who never quite caught up to the post with which he took odd umbrage: I *didn't* pay for any RPP updates, but RP tried to make me do so by holding my files' audio hostage. The update's cost was not mentioned until the install. I spent a few hrs. with RP's "world-class" customer support, and had my audio restored, and my previous RPP version (which worked fine and does to this day, btw) re-installed. Like I said. KarlP.S. I think "Web/Multimedia Developers" are bright, detail-oriented people. For the most part. Neither of us should make too much of our generalizations about others' occupations or 'sub-culture affiliations', though. See, I *am* happy (and with good reason); why don't you run along now, and work on 'bright' and/or 'detail-oriented'. I'm sure your profession will appreciate it. P.P.S. Typically, when these discussions get 7 threads in, they go to the Water Cooler to die. I'm doing more interesting things, myself, and you "most likely" have people in the next cubicle IRL to bother with your ignorant speculations about things they actually know. Why don't you "Read globally, be a knucklehead locally", with people who have no choice but to be around you?! We've more or less hit the end of your 'entertainment value', and our prior comments speak for themselves. Now that you've finally dropped the pretense, and revealed your purpose here is simply to get attention in any way possible ( misreading posts, sharing your stereotypes of others' screen-names, actually arguing against first-person experience with "most likely*-type speculation, and so on), you're on your own. Your easy-to-read mentality is "most likely" one which requires the 'last word'; so knock yourself out. I won't be reading it.

Your inference that I was talking about the 'free version' is your own; I was talking about their business practices. You, panties suddenly in bunch, started telling me that since *you* were only talking about one of their products, that my experience with them 'couldn't have happened', due to your limited (free version) experience. Neither this article, nor its Discussion, was limited to 'free downloaders'; your craven need to try and deny my experience with them (because it didn't match yours), misses my salient point: since you only have experience with their free product, you are 100% ignorant--by your own admission--of their 'real' RealPlayer ($). You make yourself look stupid arguing about the $RealPlayer's terms with me, since you obviously never read them, let alone entered into a contract with them. I did, and shared my experience. Why are you upset if it didn't happen to you (since you don't use the product I told about---just their free one)? Your apples; my oranges---same orchard. I said the oranges suck. You piped up that "That can't be true, because I only eat their apples, and you must be lying about the oranges I've never tried because I've declared the whole orchard 'good' on the basis of their apples alone..." That's pretty effing stupid, DDunin, and it's why you come off as either a shill, or someone who's critical analysis fell off the truck back there a ways. We're all (except *you*) talking about downloaders---NOT just the free versions. Maybe read the article again. Then come back and rave all you want about the free RP, but feel free to STFU about other people's comments about RP's other 'YouTube Downloader', since you're admittedly ignorant of them, and in no position to 'correct' others about them. Both of our first comments were about our direct experiences with RP d-loaders (one 'free'; one 'premium'). They were both germane to the page's discussion. From then on, though, you've been trying to negate my experience with yours. I don't know whether you're really a shill or an idiot, but either way, you're a stubborn one. Have fun with that....

That's why I used the MS example; it points out what a marketing scam it is when someone DOES do that (RP+ tried to hold my folder hostage if I didn't pay *again* for the continued use of what I'd been told was a one-time purchase price---get it?! That would be akin to MS charging for patches, with BSOD if you don't pay up. You sound more and more like desperate 'damage control' from Real, sent to this article to provide a mention of your product SINCE IT WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE AUTHOR'S LIST OF DOWNLOADERS. That's because he listed those "WORTH A LOOK". No amount of attempted 'deconstruction' of my post can alter my first-person experience with RealPlayer. The more you attempt to refute my own experience to me(!) with BS, the more obvious it is that you have a more serious stake in *refuting* (LMAO) a bad experience I had with a vendor than, say 'desultory chatter'. What's more likely, folks: TR's hippiekarl slandering a vendor (if what I said isn't true), or RealPlayer shills trolling a blog which refused to call their product "worth looking at"?! They were already trying to get it face-time in the "Comments" before I mentioned my own experience with their reprehensibly strong-armed marketing strategy. Now look at them, patting each other on the back, spamming their product's link....

that I used the 'trial version' of Plus (like your friends, and what happened to them must therefore have happened to me, instead of what I said). The caveat I gave above WAS for the paid version--not it's 'trial'. Most of the d-loaders mentioned here have a price, as well. I *bought* RealPlayerPlus ($49.95 as I recall), and it was trumpeted as a one-time charge. I was having issues with Roxio at the time, and RPP had the ability to use my burner, so I purchased it...Once purchased, I've been dunned for the 'upgrades' to RealPlayerPlus (for 'another' $50 each time), on every re-start. I spent 3hrs being 'helped' by a bored, patronizing East Indian the last time RPP stopped working on my machine (for not paying the NEXT 'one-time charge'), and he eventually, reluctantly uninstalled/reinstalled the version for which I'd paid already. My entire 'RealPlayerDownloads' folder had no audio, and was being held hostage for another payment (exposing the LIE in their initial marketing of the 'premium service'). The little weasel on the phone from afar admitted as much to me before we were through, and the version for which I had paid *was* restored, but only because I called them on their SALES LIE...to their *paid* customers. Mine 'works fine'----as long as I remember to refuse the update (which doesn't even mention that there's ANOTHER charge until after the installation has started!). Maybe you think you (and us) should also be charged by MS every Patch Tuesday for 'necessary' updates to a product for which you already paid. I don't....Nor do I think it's very bright of you to extrapolate others' experiences with *paid-for* products based on your friends' experiences with *free* versions. That IS what happened to me, and doubtless to others--no amount of anecdotal 'friends' experience' with the free trial is germane to that. No amount of apologists for RealPlayer lining up to deny it here change that, either. I recommend you invest in the 'Plus' version, then wait a few months until you hear from them with their hand out again, before you condescend to my experience with it. Meanwhile, I (and real.com's far-away help-desk log) stand by my warning about their proclivity to keep charging their 'Plus' customers for what they were told was a one-time fee. I'm trying to save TR members a 3hr phone call--or having real.com's hand in their pocket long after they *bought* the product. Maybe that type of behavior is what kept them off this article's list. Maybe you can shoot the messenger of 'bad news about RealPlayerPlus'; but that does NOT change their dishonest marketing strategy....
