I thought I'd bump this since there is no new article about it.
Steam for Linux is now in beta, and they had 60,000 applicants for the private beta testing.

Apparently the testing is going well, with only minor issues in both the client and the games.
Also, Apparently nVidia released new drivers that doubled their performance over the previous version for Linux. So it looks like nVidia is starting to put some bets on Linux as well.
