I'll have to assume that was meant as a joke. The DoD couldn't function without Office. For one, we would have to retrain many thousands of PowerPoint warriors! The Commies/Terrorists/Next Vague Threat would surely overrun us during all the chaos! happy

Seriously, it would never happen. MS would see to that. The DoD is firmly in their pocket.
The last I'd read, using their "free" apps entitled them to a royalty-free copy of everything a user creates (to profit from, and their size makes it easier for them to profit off your work long before you can.)

Maybe that's changed, and perhaps it has, please correct me if I'm wrong, but it was that way at one point. But nothing is free - there is always a cost, direct or indirect. I'd rather pay money and let my ideas remain my own to capitalize on so I can make money and be able to live as a result.
Yes, it is true - to get the proper Terms of Service you'll have to be a paying customer.
