The most obvious "benefit" is already apparent. MAMIL (Middle Aged Men in Lycra). With the success of the Team GB Cycling Team there is a proliferation of people riding bicycles (with all the necessary accoutrements). That's the good part. The flip side is that they think they own the road and are immune to attack from irate motorists.
