My Ubuntu install and other Linux distro VMs have no problems with USB devices, except for my DTV dongle.
In Ubuntu 10.04, I have to open the Terminal and issue some obscure command, before Ubuntu will allow it to function.

My Linux Recovery(!) discs can't handle USB at all.

My Macrium Reflect Rescue CD doesn't acknowledge the existence of any USB drives that are attached to the machine.

The latest System Rescue CD (July 2012) instantly reboots if I plug a USB memory stick into the PC. Once it reaches the USB section (during startup) it instantly reboots again.
