runs anywhere from 20,000 to 80,000 PSI. Ceramic is great with compressive but not good on tensile (less than 10K PSI) and tensile strength is important when trying to keep the barrel together.

Taking plastic (say polycarb) and doping it with ceramic does get you close to 20K PSI, but like you say it would still require a very low velocity round.
