As long as the privacy in the clouds is flawed, cloud are better avoided...
Why lock people to a cloud? And push their privacy onto a server?

And all without any warning.

Apps that connect to a cloud should never be default.
Sure i also use cloud stuff, but I don't want my pc to access any cloud by default at boot time. In this case a windows style pop up "YOUR PRIVACY IS NOW BEING UNDERMINED, ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO CONTINUE?" would be nice to raise some user awareness.
