If Unity is user friendly or not is another thing then if Ubuntu is user friendlyUnity is a personal thingBut when Ubuntu makes a big change without giving the users a good option to stay up to date with a workable desktop. that's NOT user friendly. That is forcing something that shouldn't be forced.Starting an application in unity is for most people not a problem, but multistasking between apps is not intuitive in Unity. And besides all this, i don't see the problem in copying Apple (or Microsoft), they are the ones who started to copy EVERYTHING they wanted to have. And never improved things, they only put on some make-up and never fixed anything that should be fixed. So just don't copy the code.. An Ubuntu killer I can't see either, but Ubuntu amputating parts of itself that's almost suicide...

A while back, PCLinuxOS was the "Ubuntu-killer". Currently Mint is enjoying that position. But have all of these distributions mentioned how they are going to handle UEFI, or are they going to wait and see what they can glean off the upstreams?I use Unity and while many original views, including mine, was that it was built for tablets the more I use it the more I realize it is not quite that usable yet. There is too much reliance upon the keyboard. How to do you open an application that isn't on the quick launch dock? You click the logo and type the name of it in the dash! It is not as conducive to "browsing" for the application. And what about HUD's keyboard reliance?Being suitable for a tablet means more than using big icons and Gnome-shell has the same issues as Unity when it comes to touch capabilities. KDE is the closest with the Plasma Active desktop (currently being used on the Vivaldi tablet on sale now).Unless they suddenly jump to copying the iOS/Android interface (a bad move all around), I don't see them making it to a tablet without some significant improvements. But I also don't see them going anywhere to an "Ubuntu-killer" anytime soon either.

The thing is, why force the **** by default into an OS, it's JUST AN OSOS= Operating Systembut all that mainstream 'news/fear' is NOT Operating it's more like a brainwash...Mainstream news is not really news. it is biassed 'stuff' And biassed stuff should not be on any desktop by default. Sure everyone should be free to add it to the desktop. But it should not be forced on there. In other words don't put it on there by default and 'let people at least choose what brainwash program they want' (IF they want it.)In windows it was always spending days to reconfigure until it was usable, and in this UnityBuntu it is going to look like the next upgrade we need to reserve several days to make it usable AND remove the brainwash program. If this is the route Ubuntu takes then the Human aspect of 'UBUNTU' (does anyone remember the meaning of the word?) is LOST.I'm all for Ubuntu, but they really need to rethink their self proclaimed 'humanity'. It should not be my task to filter and ignore all the 'spam' they throw at me.It's up to me to point and click the stuff I do want WHEN I want it, and until then don't bother me wit ANY news. News is not progression. It's only news.. News is filtered stuff by biassed people why attach their ego to 'something' that makes them feel important. If you realise that the next time you read 'news' then you might be able to feel your perception of 'news' change. It's one way traffic, they decide what you 'want to know' Ok I can't filter, and you can't think for yourself. Is that what you wanted to hear?

I have also tried SolutOS and that is better than Unity and very much Gnome 2 like as is ZorinOS. Another good feature with ZorinOS is you can have a choice in Desktops - Gnome 2, Win. XP or Win. 7. It is still Linux under the covers, but the Desktop feel is similar and you can switch from one Desktop to the other via the Menu and logging off and logging back on. One thing I missed was the ability to create panels and populate them like I could with Ubuntu and Gnome 2. Zorin and Solut provide that capability and as does MATE. I prefer to right-click like Gnome 2 and place on Desktop or Panel vs "Drag and Drop", and not all applications allow it.

Nothing obscure in the specs that I can tell, though they're not as specific as they could be. the card reader should work out of the box, but you never know until you boot that live CD and try it. the only thing is, if you're a gamer, it'd be a bad Idea to go with linux. Intel abandoned supporting their own hardware on all platforms a very long time ago, and left it up to MS and Apple to produce their own drivers for everything. in short, there's no 3d rendering available at all for intel chipsets on linux as far as I know, which makes wine useless for games on that particular laptop. again, they really didn't get very specific with the hardware in the specs listed, so I'm guessing everything has an intel chipset...the good news, as far as I know the only thing that should give you trouble is the graphics(again only if you're a gamer). Your mileage may very however, so best thing to do is download a distro's live CD/DVD iso, burn it, and try it out. I've been around, and I'd probably try out Ubuntu(or any of it's variants), Fedora, or PCLOS. I've enjoyed my time on all of them. though admittedly PCLOS's repositories are a bit lacking(I should say were having not used it since 2003), and have that annoying download speed limit. Debian might be worth a shot as well; I've not spent much time on it, but I've little in the way of complaints about it. my experience with Debian is purely by my use of it's liveDVD(KDE).
