I also resisted as I liked the old linear version. I won't have to worry about individual posts as much, but I will change this setting. I don't post about work, and don't even list my employer, and I don't have anything on there that would stop me from getting a job, unless someone was offended by my choice of music or by the gross picture of my stitches that I posted.
I have a pretty cool looking set of scars, but it's healing pretty well, except for one spot where the incision was pretty deep, and that's coming along.
I think, when it's all healed that I'll tell everyone that I was in a knife fight and that's where my opponent cut me.

You don't think you are post important stuff but you are...post some vacation photos and now someone knows your gone away. The next thing you know some friend of a friend knows your gone and they have a meth habit...say goodbye to your flat screen tv. There maybe 6 degrees of separation when it comes to relatives but there is never more than two between you and a dirtbag.
I don't post when I'm planning a vacation or time away, don't post pictures of myself or family, except for the aforementioned grody stitches and a picture of my car, and most of my posts are random thoughts, links to music, or comments on others' posts. I don't "like" products or companies (such as my bank.. why would a bank ask you to like them?), and about the most anyone will figure out is that I like to read Patricia Briggs and Mercedes Lackey.
I don't post where I live, but someone could probably still find out. Yes, there is some risk with facebook, but I'm a pretty boring person and figure that people don't want to know much about me anyway.

I take the camera and laptop. All I do with the camera is take pictures. All I do with the laptop is use it as the interface between the camera and the USB stick that stores the pictures.
If it's a short vacation, or if the SD card in the camera started empty, I may not take the laptop.

Facebook just doesn't get it. I am not worried though. To Mark Zuckerfutts "Karma is a B!TCH, just wait till she catches up to you".
Try this, Have a FB Acct for the most trusted immediate family and friends that are 'as good as family. Use a pseudonym - not your real name - after all, who was Sam Clemmens. Lock this down to friends only.
Next, have a different FB acct with a different name for friends and acquaintences. This can be more open.
Next, have a Linkedin acct with a real (or professional) name for business colleagues, professional contacts, etc.
DO NOT intermix any combination of the above. i.e., none should be 'friends' with each other. Also, no friend should be a friend on any more than one acct.
If you are a professional person, a 2nd Linkedin acct is a good idea also. One should be extremely 'Squeeky Clean'. Remember, society will judge you by the company you keep (friends) at least as much as by your own actions. Have something that you can be proud to show your potential employer and client.
