Indeed, that was a typo on my part.

Would Samsung and Google be tempted to setup something similar to the exclusive club MS is developing and Apple developed years ago? What are the price comparisons between a Samsung box and a BYO case populated comparatively?

thanks Bill i was lookin into geting one of thies for a friend. who wanted some thing small for the liveing room to do general things sruf,emails,and the like .this looks like it will fit the bill .

and cheaper too. I got a FoxxCon from NewEgg for less than $200. Dropped a 500GB drive (before they got expensive) and (I forget how much) RAM in it and it's a fully functional PC connected to the bedroom TV. I ran Win7 on it for a while, but it's much happier with Linux. I have Mint 13 on it right now. It's great for streaming movies from my home server.

When the econmy crashed, we lost our house and ended up living in an RV. For a while we lived in a rural community that had no broad band. If we want to be able to store and work with our digital pictures and such, this box would not have worked for us. Quite frankly, I'd much rather keep all my data on my own local machine, because there are too many points of failure to store everything on the cloud. Now, using the cloud for a backup is ok, but that is about all.

This Chromebox was never intended to be used that way so it is not surprising at all. It is kinda like trying to use a desktop as a portable computer!

Considering the price of this hunk of junk and what is included, why bother. Might as well get an Android based tablet.
You'll see this heap of crap selling cheaply by Christmas as nobody [except for some techies] wsilling to shell out that much money for a Linux OS.

...the "MiniTel" box that France brought out 30(?) years ago for its' general populace to access France's "fledgling" Information Service, accessed via telephone modem (the speed was, as I recall, a blistering 2400 bps!). Unlike the Chrome box, the "Minitel" box had a small built-in B&W CRT and smallish keyboard.

I don't know if "MiniTel" is still in operation today - I doubt it, given the "rapid rise" of the World Wide Web that started in the mid-80's...
