I saw the trend of shifting to laptops from desktops some 13-14 years ago in corporate environments. If any piece required fixing replacing it was the employer's headache and to their cost. For individuals easy path to upgrading / repairs is a major concern. One may start with minimum ram / storage / on board graphics. One can always add as and when their budgets permit or the prices fall. Something simply not possible or rather difficult AND extremely expensive with most portable computing devices.
