Technology making it possible for people to be connected 24/7 does make avoiding work nearly impossible.
Having said that, just because I am connected 24/7 doesn't mean I'm working . It just makes me more accessible and in communication with my employer.
Unless I'm working on something after hours, my personal time is my time. My employer is comforted in knowing that chances are high that I am online and available if needed.
BTW - I use to rock a pager (even the ones that didn't sport a display) for the longest time. People thought I was a doctor.
