You Never get to the right link on this site. its such a tease.

Why are you doing this? The Blog post has more information, the appropriate links and is all in one page for easy reading. The slideshow seems like a waste of time compared to the blog post.

But not for you. It's so that TR can do you a favor and refresh the adds on the right side of your screen. More clicks, more adds, more click-throughs and more money for them. Pretty simple stuff.

Dude. Chill. I wouldn't be aware of this information if I didn't get an email. I don't use a feed file. I think the author can do whatever he wants, it is his info.

If you read below the first slide, there is a sentence that reads, "NOTE: If you'd prefer to view this information as a blog post..." and it goes on to give the link to the blog post so that you don't have to view the slides.

I saw the link for the blog post, I clicked on the link for the blog post. I read the blog post. I enjoyed the blog post.

What advantage for the reader does the slideshow provide? My frustration in dealing with the slideshow is I see it as a total waste of time. But I'm me. There might be somebody who enjoys the slideshow, there might be somebody who prefers the slideshow over an easy to read blog post. Or there might be an advantage to the slideshow that I'm escapes me. What is the advantage to the slideshow?

It's costs money and time to publish in both formats. I want to know who are the people who prefer to read it as a slideshow.

The Blog Post came much latter after some people complained.

Slide show format is not only insulting but also inconvenient. Request that there is a link to the full post/article to allow folks with more than minimal reading skills to access the information.

Is it just me or do others find the gallery feature content as slow cumbersome and needlessly strenuous? Most times I just assume to pass over the content so I don't have to go through your NEXT, NEXT each time. Unlike others I have seen ON NON TECH SITES, your entire page reloads and is just annoying. I wouldn't say anything if it wasn't for the wonderful content your contributors provide but gee wiz get with a DHTML solution if not at least CSS2.

I know that ever since I started using a Word Processor things have been going downhill for me. What's worse it started off when my Secretary started using a Word processor with US Based Spooling.

Cannot agree more with Komplex. Why make things simple if one can make it complicated? I get a sore finger with all this clicking, and I tend to dismiss or skip all these slideshows.

I'm so tired of getting posts from TechRepublic about "free" apps that are not free. Most of the "free" apps pushed on here are trials and not exactly free. I wish TechRepublic would stop calling things "free" when in fact they aren't.

I have come to this site for a couple of articles.
When I find I have to navigate through slideshows, I JUST LEAVE.

Take yourself aside, and ask what benefit the slideshow approach has.
Then go back to 'Classic' view.

And later, get a job with MS, and ask them why they have been doing similar (fancy, smancy changes to everything) and abandoning 'Classic' approaches, AND DISABLING our ability to revert to 'Classic' view..

I cannot agree more strongly with the comments of Komplex and tichost. Or does Jack Wallen not have the ability to use normal methods of communication?!

This seems to be a skill set that so many of us IT folks lack. Like several others, I do not like the slide-show format. What's more, there are different sets of comments attached to the different formats so no matter which format I chose I don't have all of the comments available to me.

If my vote counts in this "republic" I prefer to have my information all in one place where possible.

Yes, I too find the 'slideshow' a pain, looking for links to the apps mentioned, so I can try out any I haven't heard of before. Many, I have already tried. But there is always something I do not know of... And it's dragooned hard to find all of the links.

We are all busy in our IT universe, and time is often at a premium.
It's your prerogative to complain about something that might take a nibble or two out of that time.
But as for me, I appreciate the valuable research and time spent by TR and their contributors, from which I benefit greatly... and which doesn't cost me a penny.
I don't mind taking an extra few minutes clicking and loading pages if it helps keep TR healthy through ad dollars. I appreciate the fact the TR gives you a choice to view as a blog post, which I sometimes gratefully use.
Too often we forget that, even with the internet, there is no such thing as a free lunch.

I agree with the other readers... A one screen list with your review of the recovery tool(s) and your vote for the favorite is my suggestion. Otherwise it becomes cumbersome and I leave.

How can i download this software

As an alternative suggestion to TR, (web ad advertising revenue notwithstanding) why not post the 'view as a blog post' link right next to the title of the article on the 'slide-show page' for those who don't want to have to keep reloading their browsers to view the slide-show? Yes, the instruction is present in the first sentence of the "Introduction", however; prople presented with the visual material preceding it will probably not scroll down to read that instruction.

The gallery format gets them many more pageviews than the normal article format. Still, it's seriously annoying.

I clicked through your slideshow and I saw lots of screen shots... Where do I actually find the names, and hyperlinks of the 5 applications you recommend, and why you recommend them?
