In all seriousness communications can help the human race better itself. Technology that improves our ability to communicate is important, nay, ESSENTIAL to us achieving our potential as a species, at least from my own limited viewpoint.

Does that mean we all need smartphones that play games, have irritating and useless apps (iBeer or on-screen lightsaber, anyone?)? Of course not. Does it mean that the iPhone isn't necessary? Nope. Will the world end and human evolution halt if we don't produce an iPhone 6? definitely not.

Games don't kill my time. They help me relax and focus better. My smartphones applications INCREASE my productivity, not decrease it. The way we choose to use our tech dictates just how useful it is and while I get what you mean by saying "WAKE UP to what the world needs" I cannot agree with your opinion as stated.

What the world needs is what the world has always needed - better understanding through effective communication. Tech can help us get there if we use it to it's true potential.


EDIT: Still, the idea of a limited function, thin and light 'dumbphone' (see what I did there? not an insult to anyone but the phone) is a noble goal. Not everyone wants their comms tech to be everything at once. Transportable, reliable - could be just the thing for users who just need to chat to people remotely to be more effective. Takes all sorts, after all and just because I love having the world at my fingertips anywhere I go doesn't mean everyone should have too.
