The DUNS # is still a requirement
We just went through the same process. I was registered as an individual developer for about 2 years and now have enough business to justify the enterprise registration. As we reside out of United States, the DUNS # is an immediate requirement and not an option. We had to contact our local D&B office and incur an additional expense of USD 125 to obtain this number. The whole process takes longer than 24 hours, it's actually 14 days as our local D&B office does not update their global database immediately and the number won't be recognised in Apple's system which i suspect is only linked with D&B's US office.
Is it still worth it.... Well... there is no other choice if you're a mobile app developer.
