Apple Doesn't Need that "Missing Killer Feature"
You say that the iPhone 5 "...iPhone 5 lacks killer feature..." and that it "...still impresses..." I can tell you the OS has one feature that _no_ android device can stand by: consistency of user interfaces across all iOS devices.
Case in point: Configuring an Android device to access email varies from version to version, and event from brand to brand of device upon which the phone is built. This, IMHO, is largely Google's fault, for being too lenient in letting some variations go amongst the different manufacturers developing devices using Android in exchange for gaining market share not only against Apple, but also Microsoft with its Windows Mobile implementations. Accuse apple of being locked down, but at least their UIs across all their devices possess a controlled, consistent look and feel. That's just one thing that makes using Apple devices attractive.
Contrary to the author's opinion, Apple doesn't need to have that "standout feature" in neon lights. All they need is to offer simplicity and consistency in the way their devices are used across the board. That says a lot.
