Yes, I did use a Xerox Star sometimes, in the mid to late 1980's. B/W screen, lots of pixels, overlapping windows were available, as was a system view screen, ala OS/2.

As the Xerox Star was used mostly as a word processor, the overlapping veature was seldom used. It got in the way even more than it does currently.
