LinkedIn is a fabulous resource for IT pros today. The problem is that most just use it as a static presentation of their history...and a bare bones one at that. The tools are there for you to engage with others in your network. I don't mean just blabbing about nothing just for the sake of the relationship, although sometimes that's ok. There are so many discussion forums, articles, and other things on LinkedIn that allow you to connect with those in your network, groups, etc. in ways that matter within your area of expertise.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again; more important than your knowledge, your presence, your activism and your network is your relationship to your boss; that one connection can make or break your opportunity with an employer.

Frankly, I am not a fan of linkedln. Just a glorified social network. Why would I pay a fee, to
join. I am doing fine without it.
