"When we pay Taxes we are allowing the Government to do it's job to protect us from the Big Bad World out there ..."

Some of us disagree that protecting us from the world is its job. I don't think anyone would debate that defending out country from other countries is part of a government's job. But 'protecting' us from the results of our own (in)actions, from our own failure to save for retirement or purchase health insurance or use products in ways no sober person would attempt? That's where the debate lies.
