It's forced obsolescence. Depends on (a) the youth, inexperience and ignorance of the developers & managers at MSFT, and (b) the same in the market, and (c) the psychological fact that most people, after being forced to waste a lot of time adapting to new interfaces and click patterns, will be emotionally compelled to decide they "like" it.
