This is an excellent feature in Windows 8 and an excellent blog post for setting up a Windows to Go environment.
Thanks.

When would this be useful? Can you install complete applications on the media, space permitting, or is it just the OS? Can you configure the installed OS as a domain member, and access network resources?
Perhaps if an enterprise is not set up for virtual desktops, then IT can distribute the standard desktop on USB for employees using their own device?
This could be useful in many ways. For example, a temporary employee who needs a station but will be gone in a few months, could use Windows to go. Or a mobile user, IT pro that wants to carry an environment without carrying computers.
The Windows to go environment supports full application installations and works the same as a locally installed copy on a laptop minus the exceptions. The Windows to go workspace can be joined to a domain

I can't imagine EVER using this feature. They already have something that lets you take Windows with you wherever you go, and you don't need to take over someone else's workstation and go through elaborate preparations to use it. It's called a laptop.
