Also, don't forget to set up the "filters" part of your backup configuration - it will allow you to fine-tune the files you want to include /exclude from your backup.

The main limitation of Areca in my opinion is that it is not able to store opened / locked files out of the box (for instance outlook files). Fortunately there is a plugin named ArecaVSS that implements VSS support (Volume Shadow Copy), which will allow you to do that.
