If I'm going to wipe a drive, I'm not going to remove it from its original system and reinstall it in one with the required software. That means I'll be booting from DVD or other removable media, but I'm not going to chase after a license key every time I want to use it. Further, many of the older systems here won't support 1280x1024. Finally, there are plenty of free tools to do this job.
