You seem attached to the idea of Surface as a laptop. While having the kickstand and keyboard is great, I would expect that the Surface should revert to a tablet in cases where it makes sense. Such as, in bed or travelling.
Really can't wait for the next episode, we in NZ have to wait another few months before release, evidently Microsoft are setting up there own shops...like Apple which would be a BIG mistake.
So once Pats report is in, and it confirms, I will have to source from the States it seems.Disappointed about the charger though...surely Microsoft would have thought as through this and added a usb slot for charging too?

I'm one of the few in the IT field which doesn't own a tablet and I'm looking forward to read your next articles. So far, I couldn't find a suitable usage for a tablet while having a smartphone and a laptop (+ desktop at work). But the deeper geek in me wants one!
I hear you, fred9777.
I also avoided getting a tablet. With desktops and laptops at home/work, and a smartphone, I had a really hard time seeing the value of a tablet.
My deep geek is waiting for SurfacePro.

I am hesitant to purchase one to replace the iPad as my mobile device mainly because there is not an option to use 3G/4G. I find myself constantly using my tablet in areas where wifi is not readily available. Maybe you can touch on that in your next article.
I'm glad there is no expensive 3G card built in. I got a data subscription for my phone already and it's easy as sharing it as wifi with any recent smartphone. I'm all in for Surface. If it was a android tablet on the market with similar kickstand and inbuilt keyboard the choice would be hard. The support for normal windows apps in surface pro makes it a clear winner now though.
Have you seen any sign of the acknowledged splitting issue. Where flipping the keyboard backwards under the tablet instead of disconnecting it has caused the tablet case to start to split near the electronic connector in the middle of the keyboard.
"While its unlikely Ill write much beyond a few paragraphs in bed before turning in for the night, occasional nocturnal bouts of inspiration have me reaching for a standard laptop rather than Surface, ..."
It's a tablet, right? Does it come with OneNote or other note-taking application? You could write your thoughts and then turn them into text in the morning.
