I left Columbia at 5pm
NickNielsen 17th Nov
Made good time, too, until I got to Allandale, when the fog started rising. By the time I got to the river, it was all the way up. I think I might have averaged 40 mph the last 20 miles.

Found this right away by going to my contacts and clicking on...well...you!

Y'all have fun there today! Long distance ((hugs)) to those worthy of same. silly
Either HAL or Smeg, but not both! We're not here to reward schizophrenia. grin

Here in lies the problem. Hal has a different listed Burfday to Smeggy.

One is in November and the other is January 12 and I'm not telling who's is who's. silly

Col
He uses these multiple personalities to get more cake and ice cream!
Sneaky...but a good idea! happy

for every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows. :P

But here yesterday there was good soaking rain which will help the grass grow.

Of course the down side, where I was working is that with no soaking rain for a long time and a blocked down pipe the phone system produced lots of Magic Smoke and if I wasn't there the server would have as well.

Now I wonder if they will be open today and if I'll actually get the job done. laugh

used to give people a hard time when they would call for help
with their PC, saying it smelled burned, and smoke came out
the vents..."Well, I'm afraid your computer has lost its Magic
Smoke. If you weren't able to capture the Magic Smoke in a
bottle or bag, I can't put it back, and you'll have to purchase
new sealed components that still have their Magic Smoke."
Good for a chuckle or two...
due to the saying in my youth of 'don't trust anyone over 30.'

We all will suffer from it eventually. wink

Of course the good side is being able to say to Police that stop you What's Wrong Sonny? Or Don't be Ridiculous what you are saying isn't possible.

PS
HAL 9000 9th Nov
Not going to happen here, it's a terrible weekend and getting worse by the nanosecond.

I'm just about to go to the local Quacks and load up their server with a 64 Bit OS that supports their Medical Program as the old 32 Bit version has now reached the end of it's useful life and the SQL D Base is consuming 2.8 GIG of RAM out of the 3.25 that is available to the 32 Bit OS.

The server is under 6 months old and the Medical App within the past week has just been certified for a 64 Bit OS and just to keep life interesting I don't know which OS I can use as I have yet to see the Specifications for the Program and the place is open all weekend.

I can describe things in quite a few ways and it's defiantly not going to be Boring but Happy it's most defiantly not. wink

Col
And that you're stuck with a complete re-installation of OS and apps.

Good luck.

It's got even better
HAL 9000 Updated - 9th Nov
We have rain here today and it's been a long time since we have had any rain. So is this what happens when the Cloud has a security breach?

The down pipe is blocked and water is now running into where the server was. This started just after the reinstall started and I pulled the power and yanked the server out of it's home to some place much dryer.

Took the rest of the day off while they fix the building up and then I can go back tomorrow hopefully and start all over again from scratch. Good thing I have heaps of time and don't have to have this fixed till Monday when they are busy. laugh

Col
Put in 12, and going back out tomorrow. With anything remotely resembling luck (yes, that loud knocking noise is me!) it will be less than 8 hours.

Love the paycheck, but jeez, I'd like to have a life or something...
Apparently constantly getting more work than you can do and being expected to constantly pull Rabbits out of the Hat by making things work the way that the Execs want is Bullying.

Seems that what I considered as Normal IT Work is actually bullying of the poor Computer Tech.

Now if I can figure out who to sue I may be able to retire and not be in a position of being asked to do the impossible immediately ever again.

Seems that these Educators didn't consider people in IT when they framed their questions. laugh

Col
life in IT is limited to the small space between working and working some more.

Oh, I know
NickNielsen Updated - 12th Nov
But it's always fun to be surprised. Had one of those days today. Started in Columbia, then got to drive to Sylvania, then home. Five hours of driving to replace an effing Cat 5 cable! After I was directed to replace the router before even performing basic troubleshooting! sad

Sometimes I hate dealing with the NOC.
It could be worse; you could be with DOR grin

in there somewhere, but we will not take off points for that, wish I could have been there with you folks.

I bet they completely ignore your complaint though. grin

Thanks Wiz.

That's a drawback to working for yourself, hehe! No place or person

I talk to myself!?!@#@) sad

Not to mention you have the worst boss possible in the world and can get away with nothing as they know exactly when you are trying to pull a swifty on them. wink

There aught to be laws against Bosses like that. wink
