Your boss or workplace could be the nicest. Friendliest (Guy/Gal) on the planet. When push comes to shove. It's you who goes over the cliff first..not the boss. If you're unhappy and took those steps, don't look back. If your work satisfaction is based on misplaced "Loyalty"..go work for the Apple Genius Bar, and drink the Purple Koolaid.
