Five applications for parsing big data

The concept of big data is something you can recognize as potentially very important to your organization but the practical use of big data is more difficult to fathom. What applications have you been using to cultivate useful information from the data generated by your organization?

For many years along my favourite is Talend Open Studio, which has started as open software.
Talend as organisation has promoted free usage of this software, but also support this software with many connectors, and has developed both as company and from 'the community' various very smart datawarehouse utilities.
Maybe the best way is to discover this magic piece of software for yourself .
