It's always good to have alternate ways of accessing the data in our working files. I was totally unaware of this approach, however, I will file this one away for future reference. I have been able to access MS Word content by opening the files in OpenOffice.org, or LibreOffice. I've also been successful using Gedit or other plain text editors. They show all of the underlying code, as well as the 'content'. This makes for an awful lot of editing, but will be helpful, if there is no other source of access to the original MS Word document.
