yes, I have reproduced the exact problem you describe... here, on the same computer on which I tested and usually run this script. The reason is, indeed, some utf-related formatting/character encoding error when going from the ASCII files in my computer to the HTML version here. However, the quick solution is to replace the characters that generate those "diamonds" with single quotes. Sorry for the complication!
