I am the first to admit that I have never tried Google Wallet. Maybe I am just too set in my ways. What do you think? Are you using Google Wallet? Do you recommend it?
to buy a smart phone in the first place. The features of this that my debit card doesn't have aren't anything I'm interested in, especially not to the point of buying a phone, paying for service, and passing my card numbers through Google.
Really? That's strange. I used it on my rooted phone for about $300 worth of Christmas purchases today at the mall. I think your information is incorrect. You can use it rooted, you just need to read up on how to do it.
Google Wallet is wonderful. My phone is password protected, plus the Wallet itself is PIN protected. None of my actual credit/debit card numbers are visible in the application, so it's actually safer than using the actual cards. Cerberus, also on my phone, which allows me to track my phone, snaps a picture and emails the picture to me if someone keys in my password twice incorrectly, can record video/audio/pictures remotely, and of course, can wipe the phone completely, I'm much more afraid of losing my real wallet with my real credit cards than I am of losing my phone.

Thanks for the comment and the great description of your experience with Google Wallet. When I said it "can't be used" on a rooted phone I was referring to Google's admonition as such; perhaps "shouldn't" is a more appropriate term since in other words it's not supported. Apparently they've even engineered a method to notify users of these devices as such (http://androidcommunity.com/google-wallet-now-displays-warnings-for-rooted-phones-20120305/) though that appears not to be the case for you. My take is that as long as it works properly, support options may be a secondary priority.
