Netbooks had seen their biggest quarter just before the iPad announcement
That wouldn't exactly say the fad was already on the way out.

However, while the netbook was intended as a more highly mobile version of the laptop, it was just grossly underpowered. The iPad made mobility much simpler and easier to use.
