What's the point of "automating" something that requires manual entry? You could type this information slightly faster without the form.

Your time would be better spent creating a letter template that includes the auto-text date, plus a formatted space for the address.

It's a simple example to explain a more complex process of data-capturing. In the intro, I even suggested that you might apply the information to more complex data-capturing tasks.
driven tool in word that let you automatically address envelopes from your contact or address list using the envelope template that existed in Word from the start right through to at least Word 2003?

It was simple, click on the menu item, it opened the address book, selected the one or ones you wanted and hit enter.

@GrizzledGeezer, I think Susan used a simple example to demonstrate userforms. I agree that its use is an overkill in this specific case.

Take it for what it is: a technique that you now can apply in situations where it is more suited.
Probably relevant to the majority of Word users _on TechRepublic_.

In Susan's problem scenario you have a variety of tools at your disposal to solve it. You can do your own decision making matrix to weigh the pros and cons and select the desired approach.

There will be other problems where userforms may not be at the bottom of your choices.
But she didn't say it, and it seemed appropriate to point it out.

That's it in a nutshell. Those who want a more complex example, might offer some examples and we can share some solutions. The more complex the example, the more people, I exclude -- not particularly beneficial. But, we can come up with more complex solutions for those who need them.
